This cute little monster usually lives in dark caves but is equally at home in dark rooms lit only by a computer screen. This figure would be about 5 inches tall and 4 and a half inches long. The orange bits should glow in the dark. It is intended to be decorative, however it would be nice if it was made so that it might be able to balance small objects on its tail and feet as a display.

That lump on the tail; it would look better if you took that off. The tongue could use improvement as well. The eyes, too. They look dead are too square-shaped. The X's also seem cliche. I will admit I would use X's in my own designs, but you've over used them; its cluttered. Why not try using a different symbol instead. The color scheme is nice. However the orange looks pastel-like. Pastel colors make me think of baby toys. This is not a baby toy. The "ears" are a nice idea, but I've seen it been done before. The stitches on the mouth would be cool if there weren't so many. Try cutting back on that. This would be a nice design if you reworked it.

I like the white one more. It's hard to see where his limbs are in the black version and too many X-s make it too busy. And maybe there's something I'm missing here, but I fail to see this character as a rip-off. Inspired, at best. There are simply too many differences between the two designs and I can easily see the elements that are similar (the x markings and the tail with a mouth) to be a coincidence.

Alrighty, after talking with Poptart a bit about the similarities between my critter and hers, it's been established that it's just a misunderstanding. xP Even so, I decided to make an alternate marking scheme for it to make it more different.

What do you all think of the second marking scheme? A paint your own might also work, though the glowy bits would be forfeited.

We totally agree!
If you have serious issues with copyright or anything else - we are sure there are better ways to discuss and solve this.
We also see similarities and even SKITTY agrees but it's not an exact 1:1 copy and to mark the crosses or sticking out tongue would mean to take a lot of other designs from our site since many are similar to existing concepts.
For example we got "Robots" by different artists here - so who copied who?
...not even speaking of the countless wolfes...
Artists are always influenced by others - so similarities are always there in the world of art & design.

@mix1000: Alright it's pretty obvious you made this account just to bitch me out--can we stop this? I have already contacted Poptart in an attempt discuss this like civilized human beings. No need for pointless internet drama, okay?

Honestly this thing was inspired by the Pokemon Mawile, something my sister drew up, and the letter X all on the body of a little rodent thing.

I am seeing similarities now that you've pulled up some different pictures and that comparison thing... But you know, this is a WIP design anyway, and some of the marking detail (such as the x 'eye' markings on the tail and the proportion of white/black) were due to be moved/edited. And you still seem to be grasping a bit for some of those. ("tongue sticking out?" But I gave it a couple tweaks to look like a better toy design. It seems in doing so I accidentally stepped on some artistic toes of someone I'd never met.

I was planning to tweak the design anyway to make it more aesthetically pleasing, and if Poptart feels uncomfortable with the similarities between my design and hers, I could probably work something out with him/her.

What ISN'T needed is any more comments from the peanut gallery. Any issue here should be between Poptart and me--no need to spam here with mindless OMG U STOLED comments. All that serves is to stir up trouble, and I would like it if any issue here is resolved with the minimum of fuss and drama.

You don't have any proof that this is your original idea. I can make you a list of points that show major similarities in character design.

1. The white, small critter.
2. Black cross design.
3. Big fluffy tail.
4. Cross eyes on tales face.
5. Tail has a black face.
6. Tail has a big grin with a tongue sticking out.

I love the creature himself. Very cute and awesome looking but I'm not to fond of the mouth tail. Either way though, I think it's super cute.

Ps- I don't see any similarities to Poison-Poptart's character and this one other than the they both have mouth tails. But even with that said your design has a different kind of mouth tail.

@Poptart and Salem: Wow. I'm not even sure how to respond to that. My creature is not "ripped off" and hardly could be when I had not seen your creature prior to making this one and... well, they barely have much in common anyway aside from both having a mouth in their tail.

Before you start throwing accusations around and trying to stir up trouble, you should make sure that there is actually theft going on.

It would have been nice if you had contacted me privately with your concerns rather then trying to make a scene here. Could we take it to notes, please? :/

@poptart: with the links you send - the similar thing we can point out is the fact that there's a character with a tail which is another character.
So it's hard to tell and judge if this is a rip off - you are talking about that this character design has already been taken.
What exactly is a copy of your character - we need more proof/evidence to point out that this is an exact copy of your character.

Just because it's a similar idea doesn't justify to take this design from our site - even if the idea would've been inspired by your design.

This is a rip off!
This characters design has already been taken, nothing about this is original other than the fact you changed the species of animal and color.

Really loving the functionality of this design, and the colours. The tail's really cute, though when thinking of the creature upright, wouldn't the tailmonster be upsidedown? Ahwells, that doesn't matter for this design, neh?

This is certainly a functional design and I do like it. But maybe tone down the over all detail of the character? It looks a bit too busy over all. The muzzle doesn't really need those white stripes and the little guy at the top doesn't really need so many crosses. The colour scheme is functional enough.

You could actually transform this design so that it's a canine on it's face, rather then a monster? Just a thought.

It's a really cool idea but I think the tail ruins the balance a bit. Maybe if you made the tail a little smaller and more flowing and streamline it would look better!
