About My Design
Thrace is an aquatic dragon who spends his time sunning on rocks and making mischief on any human he can find. His antennae help him not only to navigate while swimming, but act as anglers for easy pickings of fish.
If done right, the color scheme could be amazing... except the tail. Just my opinion, there, but the purple and the blue swirl are a distraction. If there is no good reason for the wings to be ragged like that? Clean it up, because that looks awful painful. Tighten up the design, clean things up, and I would love to have Thrace perched on my desk at work. No, seriously. I'd pay.
snarky has some really good points - I would say don't worry so much about the functional aspects - this is art and fantasy - you are not designing for reality you are designing for the art consumer - think some more about colors per snarky - address the lien work and proportions per snarky - you are on the right track - cool art
love the art - tighten up your line art and brush-strokes and you would not be able to keep this from being voted fives consistently - gave it a three for a weaker performance on the line work
I'm going to start off by pointing out that this is a terrible color scheme and really nothing I would want to see outside of a really awesome LSD bender in a room illuminated solely by black lights.
Second; for a creature who's primary function is to live in water he looks like he'd have a damn easy time drowning. Fur that long would create drag that would make him insanely slow, those two sets of wings would probably be excellent for getting caught in undertows or carrying him miles away from shore on ocean tides and river currents. What would a water based creature even need ears that long and furry for anyway? Or fathers for that matter. and of course the final nail in this coffin: Webbed toes. That's a necessity for any quadruped hoping to spend a good chunk of its life underwater.
Third: the head is unbelievably disproportionate to the body , in particular the torso and neck, and the pose is ungodly bland and uninteresting.
You're on the right track with the paddle like tail, but it's a little odd to see a creature with a tail thicker then the rest of its body.I'd suggest looking at fish and adopting a pattern from more natural colors, you might also want to look at marine reptiles and marine mammals such as marine iguanas and seals to compare them to a more terrestrial species to see how they've adapted to live in water. I would also suggest using this applied research to inspire your anatomy.
I really enjoy the color scheme. good job! :)
This design deserves more than 2.20.
