I came about this guy sketching around at my desk during lunch. I liked the sketch enough to embellish it a bit more in photoshop. The idea behind him was your run-of-the-mill troll is some natural camoflage. :)

I really like this guy, he gives the feeling of a marshy, swampy area in a dark deep forest-- which almost wants to instill fear-- but then you see this bug atop his head! Too cute, comical, and a fantasic design!!

Outstanding design this would look truly awesome as a figurine.

Thanks for the comments everyone.  When I get some more time, I'll do some turnarounds for this guy and maybe tweak some the design a little. :)

Dude, this rules... love the lady bug! Nice touch!

Y'know if the tail was to lowered a bit more, that might help with any balancing problems. Just a thought though

Yes a cool base would be the icing on the cake.

This is awesome. Great Character!

Great figure--love the head/hat/face...basically the whole thing. Balancing could be tricky, but slight adjustments to feet positioning and then either using the tail/branch or properly poised arm/club could do the trick. This is a great figure and totally doable without a base. I am really not a fan of bases though, so there is some bias.

Great illustration and idea for a figurine! I hope you post some turnarounds!

@samotage  good call bringing up fagility.  I'd imagine if this were to go into production, some details would have to be trimmed down or blown up for both readability and stability. :)

mouse-has-faith commented 1st Feb 2010
Wow, this is awesome. I love his glowing blue eyes. Reminds me of those fairytale, whimsical books I read as a kid.
samotage commented 1st Feb 2010

Actually, with the tip of the club on the ground I think this might be able to stand by itself. It will still be fragile because the feet are tiny, but a base wouldn't really help with the fragility imo.

etheralfeather commented 1st Feb 2010

i like the blue ladybug, really stands out

monomoose commented 1st Feb 2010
he's gonna be famous!
JKeller commented 1st Feb 2010
This would be a cool figure :)
JonMc commented 1st Feb 2010

Now that you mentioned it I suppose it would make a good base for him.  Given his proportions I wouldnt imagine he could stand too well without one.  Let's say the rocks and grass would be part of the base. :)

Quirk commented 1st Feb 2010
Very Cool Jon! Love to see this as a figure. Questions though: Are the rocks and grass just for the picture or will they be part of a base?
