About My Design

Inspired by a statuette of Anubis I saw a few years ago. At first glance I thought he was holding a pistol, but it ended up being just a silver ankh. Still, I thought Egyptian gods with guns was possibly one of the coolest ideas ever, and have been playing with the idea ever since. The plan was for him to be around 8" tall, a nice size for him to protect (or possibly rob?) the stuff on your desk :3 If this works out, I have plans for Horus and Sekhmet as 1920's gangsters as well.

I don't mean to be rude, but it's missing something... I'm not sure what... but it just doesn't seem right... If your could find something to give it more appeal then this would be a fantastic design, but as it stands I find it blah and not very creative.
Ruuza commented on 16th Feb 2011 (Report Spam)
I like the idea of this ,it looks rlly great ^-^ I would love one like this at my room =D
Ferisu commented on 15th Nov 2010 (Report Spam)

Way to go! I There's so much personality in this I don't even know where to begin, haha. Neat concept and gratz on getting it made into a figurine!

Nonbon commented on 22nd Aug 2010 (Report Spam)
This is seriously one of my favorite designs on this site. Haha, I love the concept. He's totally rad!
Corvid337 commented on 29th Jun 2010 (Report Spam)

I also understand that anubis is just a dog head on a human body, but I just feel like it's missing something here. Like others have said, the "egyptian motif stops at the shoulders", it would be cool if it continued throughout the design. Unfortunately I don't have any ideas on how to that. none the less, I'm sure it will sell, it's something that i think will appeal to a wide audience, which ultimately is the goal of patchtogether.

samotage commented on 29th Jun 2010 (Report Spam)

I understand where both of you are coming from, and you both make good points! No need to start an argument, I realize I can't make everyone happy, and Corvid was very mature about it :)

Oh, and Corvid, about the proportions: I did try some zanier proportions/stylization originally, but I ultimately decided I liked the "classic" proportions best :) Personal taste I guess!

Corvid337 commented on 29th Jun 2010 (Report Spam)

Artncoffee, No need to get on the defense. Nothing I said was disrespectful in any way. I stated that I liked the drawing, but it wasn't the most unique design for a figure. It's simply my opinion. Stating that i'm whining and what not is unnecessary.

.... commented on 27th Jun 2010 (Report Spam)

to people whining about it being an anubis head on a body, anubis is a jackle head on a human body to begin with!  http://www.linsdomain.com/gods&goddesses/pictures/relief-anubis.jpg  She just made him so much more bad ass.

""this could easily be created by cutting the head of an anubis figure and gluing it on a mobster figure body""  I would like to see where you could get this anubis head from and where you could get a mobster body from to just "cut its head of and paste it on" even if you could find those things (with some hard looking you probably could) I doubt it would look as good as this....I love this and would love to own him. When I get funds (bills bleh) I will buy one and display it for all to see.

Corvid337 commented on 4th Jun 2010 (Report Spam)

I'm not one to talk down on other peoples designs, but to be honest, i'm quite dissapointed this made it to production. It's a nice illustration, but (like others have said) in all reality it's just an anubis head on a mobster body. this could easily be created by cutting the head of an anubis figure and gluing it on a mobster figure body. If it was more stylized with different proportions then I would find it more unique.

LoveDemon commented on 2nd Jun 2010 (Report Spam)

Eek I just saw this in the store! I can't wait to buy it.

I'm also appalled by NewEngland's comments. They're absolutely childish and obnoxious.

THE CAS commented on 2nd Jun 2010 (Report Spam)

I just see this in the preorders and i have to say it looks !BADASS!

NewEngland commented on 23rd May 2010 (Report Spam)

If anyone would like to see this character in pre-production go to:

http://akireru.deviantart.com/gallery/#/d2p58ri

And I have to say I was impressed with this one too! It's drawing of a wolfs head on a suit with a gun. A must see... Go to:

http://akireru.deviantart.com/gallery/#/d239byq

Are you tired of seeing the same old ancient egyptian gods? Are you tired of seeing Anubis doing the same old boring things over and over, such as preparing souls for the afterlife or tearing the heads from the bodies of any who appose him? Are you tired of seeing the gods dressed in silk rags and adorned by jewels and gold? Well wait till you see this! Three of ancient egypts most popular and respected Gods get a a fresh, creative, modern and awe inspiring new make over. Wearing gold, creating the universe and sustaining life, sooo 3150 BC... The artist, Akireru, takes the gods to a whole new level, casting ridiculous mythological powers aside and giving them what the ancient egyptians never could have... cheap suits and guns that jam constantly. The gods have never looked better...

To check it out, go to:

http://akireru.deviantart.com/gallery/#/d1rkul1

Your doing great Samotage/Akireru! I can't wait to see more art from you. I just love the whole concept of these egyptian gods/mobsters. Maybe next you can do the Greek gods dressed as modern gangsters, such as the Bloods or the Crips and have them selling crack rocks or robbing liquor stores! The possibilities are endless! Keep up the good work! :)

bltmr commented on 20th May 2010 (Report Spam)

NewEngland: Rude. Also, a shitty critique. Learn how to write a review of a piece of art; you can make it scathing without sounding like a retard.

NewEngland commented on 19th May 2010 (Report Spam)

First, you say that you didn't request all 150+ people to vote for you. Well, maybe some people that were actually from this site did vote but I happen to be a watcher on your Deviant Art, Akireru and know for a FACT that you requested everyone to vote for your design,! Which is how I know that this stupid excuse for a character is being made into a toy already... So, don't try to bullshit me.

Also, I just wanted to say that I completely despise you. You have the balls to go on other people's pages and critique there art when your's is FAR from a creative design. Let me give you an example you little prick... You had this, amongst other comments to say about BlueShineWolfs karate wolf.

" Since you hate the word generic so much, which of these do you prefer: boring, common, uninspired, unimaginative. or bland?

Point is, this design is nothing new, nothing exciting, and not something I'd like to see as a toy :/", on quote.

What the fuck is so great about your design? Do you really think that sticking an anubis head on a mobsters is inspiring, imaginative and not boring? You took a anubis head and put it on a mobster body! I wonder where you get the balls to talk about someone else's designs when yours is a prime example of the failure of PT to choose art based on SKILL and CREATIVITY. You also go on to say that a timber wolf and karate have nothing in common... I mean, are you even kidding me here? Wtf does anubis have to do with mobsters? As you might have guessed already, the answer is NOTHING! So, before you start really trying to critique other people art, critique your own...

Also, spare me any comments about not posting art, people can have their characters made online for 120 dollars.

Thanks! :)

samotage commented on 14th May 2010 (Report Spam)

PogoMogoLogo: Um, I did not request all 150+ people to vote for me, I don't know that many people! 6_9 I'll admit I got my friends and family to vote but you're encouraged to do that, and that only accounts for maybe 30 of my votes, total (The "there you go, Sam. HAPPY?" was a joke, my friend Christina wrote it). The great majority are people I don't know.

And you both keep saying my design is uncreative, but neither have offered a single crit. Seriously, I'd love to hear your opinions on how to improve! There's got to be something, especially if my design is "a stain upon the site itself."

PogoMogoLogo commented on 14th May 2010 (Report Spam)

@ NewEngland I completely agree with you. This design is not very creative. The sad part, is it will probably win! There are people out there who are using their creative minds and actually coming up with original designs for charactors and it would be a shame if PT made this. It would be a slap to the face of the people who take the time to submit art and a stain on the site itself. All these people were told to vote... obviously. Look at the comment that says, There you go Sam, happy?

All these "requested" votes, Lets see how many buy it....

Major fail.

samotage commented on 10th May 2010 (Report Spam)

@NewEngland: well, to each their own I guess P: Though Anubis IS just a guy with a dog head, so not sure how I could put him in a suit and avoid it being "just a guy in a suit... with an Anubis head."

Also, looks like you're new around here, because the only way people win IS by advertising. Most of the winners either advertised their butts off or advertised on deviantART and were lucky enough to have a big fanbase willing to vote for them! xD

NewEngland commented on 10th May 2010 (Report Spam)
Not impressive. I'm a huge fan of Anubis but I just don't see the creativity in this. I mean, it's just a guy in a suit... with an Anubis head. It's completely void of any real character or creativity and I wouldn't buy this. Also, requesting people to come and vote for you is not a good way to go about winning...

great idea but did u get permisson ¬¬ your comment on my design wasnt very helpful it was just jugemental in a negative way , it was a doodle she had made which we were going to turn into a comic and its just a sketch not the model design so unless you have actual HELPFUL information keep it to your self thanks ps i think they would like it as its not fully based on my freind we took her personality and created a charater "the fro"

Definately an arm joint....more than just a statue....maybe two arm joints so the cigar can be moved up and down....and a voice chip that says "Let him sleep with the crocodiles."

Now that I'm seeing this concept, I just realized that Anubis always did have a gangster feel to him for me. I do look forward to seeing what you come up with for the others you mentioned. I just had an idea actually...it would be very cool to see a design with them all in an 1920 / 30's car in the middle of an old school drive-by shooting. The car infused with Egyptian influence as well, of course.
samotage commented on 17th Nov 2009 (Report Spam)
LeeLee: Well Sekhmet was going to be the flapper in my little trio, but I might change it to Bast.... It won't make a huge difference though, it's a lion head vs. a cat head xD;

and thanks for the comments everyone :3
