"Meet HappeeBot Surpreme! He's the latest in robot-emote innovation. HappeeBot is always cheerful and ready to serve. He can be programed to do yard work, chop vegetables or mine on a far away asteroid! Great with kids and animals! Make sure the next robot you purchase is a HappeeBot!"

--------------------

The toy is based on a watercolor painting I created some time ago. The little robot's character design has always struck a cord with me, and in the back of my mind I've always wanted to do more with it.

I took a lot of time re-working the design to make sure the figure's pose would be both interesting and stable. His feet should be wide enough not to have too much trouble standing on his own, but if it's an issue, he can always come with a removable base.

I also considered the thickness of the limbs. I drew the sketches to scale when designing to make sure they weren't too thin. As long as the figure is 6-7 inches tall, they should be thick enough not to worry too much about breakage.

I choose blue simply because the original painting was blue, but as you can see, I've offered up some other fabulous colorways to choose from.

not that they actually use "pantone inks" to print upon the figure, they just use the pantone values to match as closely as possible the colors in the original design. this is helpful because colors vary from one computer screen to another, and using industry standards helps prevent mistakes.

This reminds me of that robot show that was on Nickelodeon. Jenny or what ever? Same colors. but he's cute ;)

So you guys use Pantone inks to paint them? Or any way of showing exactly what color the figure should be, like RGB or CYMK? I've only heard of pantone being used for printing, that's interesting.
VISEone commented 12th Nov 2009
Just to mention it: When we produce toys and figures - we do need the pantone colors so we can get close to the original coloring of your design.
katanimate commented 10th Nov 2009
It's not weird, per say. In fact, I like that you listed pantone colors. I just don't see it much in online communities. It shows you have more knowledge about colors and inks then the average submitter, I guess is where I was trying to get at :)
I like his super smile, by the way. Silly robots are the best!

@Katanimate:
It's okay, I know you didn't mean anything about the characters design. I'm just confused as to why this is weird, when a few of the toy companies I've looked at preferred pantones to get the color match.

He really is very happy... Not my cup of tea, but nice work.
katanimate commented 10th Nov 2009
Oh, I know :) I just thought it was silly that you chose to do pantone as opposed to RGB or CYMK like most internet references use. As pantones are mostly used for printing.

I ment nothing against you or your bot character. I just found it interesting so I though I'd mention it.
Death-Taffy commented 10th Nov 2009
The pantone colors weren't listed for printing, they were listed to get a proper color reference. Colors on-screen can vary from computer to computer.
katanimate commented 10th Nov 2009
I like that you have six Pantone colors listed for him but if this were to be professionally printed it would cost more than a four color process. Not that it matters toy-wise, it just amused me for a moment.

Anyway, I do like the bot! Especially his claws and glowy circular eyes.

He's pretty awesome. :D I love his grin.
