About My Design

Mike is just a jerk. Claim anything else, and you're reaching. The only time he ever says anything helpful is if it depresses you. And he has made a pretty fine career of saying just the right truthful things just to blow your mind. He's got an embarrassing secret, though, and Amber, after discovering it, is extorting boyfriendship out of him to keep it that way.

I wish the pose was more dynamic, but the again it is Mike, what would he care? Unless of course he was drunk. . . I smell variant!

I wouldn't get Mike by himself. But I certainly will to stick him next to Amber. (Now if I could just get Amber's corn popper to stay upright.)

I did have a more action-based pose for Mike, since I also wanted him to be dynamic, but I decided against it, basically for the same reason. Standing alone, Mike just isn't gonna do an action pose. He's not that kind of guy. He can if he's pushed, but more often than not he's just gonna stand there folding his arms. So this captures his spirit better, but I also maneuvered him slightly so he'd still look nice next to Amber.

I agree with the ealier poster who wrote that something seems missing from this design. While this pose would make a statue that wonderfully complements Amber's by capturing their nuanced relationship, it is not remarkable of its own merit. The Amber statue is compelling as a stand-alone piece; Mike by himself is lackluster. Are there other concept design sketches?
