About My Design
It is the year 1852. It has been 30 years since the start of the Great War. Already it feels like two lifetimes. At first there was hope that we would be able to stop the invasion. However our Flying steam fortresses are no match for their tanks and our defenses are falling quickly. I fear we don’t have much time. Our good Queen Victoria has been escorted to safety and is in hiding. I hope we have the means to keep her safe.
I have locked myself in my study in hopes of creating a new device that could turn the tides in this bloody war. Instead of military might I have come up with a small “information gathering device” that will benefit us all. If this little spy can sneak through the enemy’s defenses and relay back to use precious information we might still have a chance.
. . . Oh no, I heard the main gates of my house have smashed in. Am I too late with this? You will find the schematics for the “Vapore Mecchina Insetto” in this transmission. I pray that this information reaches my allies at PatchTogether and they can begin production before we lose all hope.
. . . . Oh heavens, I hear them coming up the stairs. The feeble lock on my door will not hold out for very long.
This is goodbye then. I must destroy my personal computing device lest the enemy forces discover my plans. Stay strong my friends, we could win this yet.
- FOR QUEEN AND COUNTRY!!!
I wanted to let you know that I just purchased one of the Sideshow Collectible Versions and I can't wait to see it! I hope you are able to create other additional steampunk items such as this to create a steampunk utopia! You are a true master of your medium. Please keep up the amazing work. Thank you!
All I can say right now Kino is that you might want to start saving up ;)
A big "thank you" to all the people who voted and made this possible. I'm super excited. There were a lot of great entries in the contest and hopefully we'll see them on shelves someday as well. Now begins the equally, if not more, daunting task of trying to get people to part with their money so it gets into production o.O
Congrats Poly :3
Lovely work, this would make a great figure.
Here's a 3d turn-around of the character. If you want to scroll around and see the other sides just click and drag the image around. If you want it to rotate on its own just single click on the image

Thanks everyone for the interest, comments, views and votes! Now it's my turn to experience the agonizing nailbiting time known as "The Great Waiting". I know you guys on the storybook contest had to go almost a month. Meep!
Love it so much, id like to see it come true.
A BIG thanks to everyone who has kept this design going!.You don't have to take the time to vote and comment but you do anyway *hug*.
Josh - Those mecha bugs are awesome. Great find.
Oddling - That's incredible for you to say. I had a big ol' smile on my face and I'm honored. You sent an encouraging comment to me in my blog section here at PT when I just started after I gushed over your designs. You're a gentleman and a scholar . .and a Steampunk professor too apparently :)
If you love this design as much as I do - you might like this as well.
I just came across this artist that takes bugs and watch parts and combines them with amazing results: http://www.insectlabstudio.com
Thats awesome.
Thank you for all the comments. votes and views. By far the best reception I've gotten. 2 weeks left in the contest and it's still anybody's game though :)
Thank you for all the votes and comments! I'm glad people enjoy this concept. I can't stress enough that each vote is very important. We don't want this guy to loose steam! haha I said "steam" cause this is a steampunk design, that's pretty funny . . .right? OK, I'll stick to drawing :)
~Cheers
i LOVE this! awesome backstory as well. would definitely like to own this.
Wow, that would be cool if people used this for roleplaying! IF (and it's a big "if") this is ever made I'd love to see a photo of him in action :)
Rendered out an all white one. Maybe a DIY perhaps :) It also lets people check out the form without being distracted by my attempts at painting metal in photoshop ;)
And I confirm, this direction is right and awesome ;) I can't stop myself from coming to see this design, it represents all I love. Unique, very beautiful and detailed.
Thanks again to all the votes! I'd love to have the wings semi transparent and have them move. Though I suppose it all comes down to interest and cost (and the wing movement would require some minor re-designs). I'm guessing this will be a bit more than a regular two legged figurine, but at the same time he's pretty unique so hopefully people wouldn't mind :)
I'm thrilled that each time I submit something it's more well received than my previous works. It means I'm going in the right direction.
~Cheers
I was also thinking this would be a great mechanical moving type of toy.
Really cool concept! If this wins, it would be so badass if they made the wings transparent! I think it'd really set this toy apart from many others out there. I can just picture this on a shelf with light glowing through the colored wings :). I also love the extra concept pages. It shows you put a lot of thought into this and the 3-d modeling really paid off in terms of being able to visualize this at a variety of angles.
The Fly... bzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
Thanks for all the love so far! It took many re-designs to get him to this point. Hah, if he gets a fair amount of attention I can post up the wips so people can see how he got to this point. It was a bumpy ride :)
Because he is originally 3d, if there's any angle people want to see I can render out an image.
~Cheers
Thank you :) I created this in 3d first to make sure that all the parts fit and that the insect would look good from all angles. Then i painted over it in 2d.
Congrats on the banner Elfenn. You got the perfect Steampunk vibe with that design!
That is just AMAZING ! Very beautiful design, and great presentation. I would love to see an illustrated book with steampunk creations and texts of yours... Gorgeous, gorgeous, gorgeous... That's a very, very good start for this contest !
