About My Design

"So sad tree in a so sad day, what could I do to make you smile, anyway ? - Just give my heart some light, and wait for the night..." At night, this twisted dead tree finds its smile and some majesty. We can find glow-in-the-dark pigments on the mushrooms, on the balls (that I imagine being lightly transclucent when they don't glow), and on its removable heart. The tree, the base and the heart are separated. All around the trunk, there are translucent glow-in-the dark patterns (invisible in daylight), and in the grass are hidden some luminous points. The balls could be stisked on some twisted branches, or hung up to branches (with invisible thread) in order to be placed where you want, don't know what would be the best... This tree comes from a story I imagined, about a tree that doesn't understant why it afraids children. It finally illuminates itself to make smile a little girl...

I love the design, and the story sounds really cute. I think this could actually become a children's picture book, and the toy would be especially popular as a nightlight or small decoration for Halloween. Totally a winner!

Thank you !

@Lily Velly : talking about this, I'm seriously thinking about making an illustrated book with my tree and the tale I've written about it (http://www.elfennsidh.fr/Oldtree.htm/) ; I would like to make a bilingual book (French/English), then I think I will publish it myself. To be continued ;-)

LilyVelly commented on 4th Jul 2010 (Report Spam)
I love your style! I can see this tree as a gorgeous illustration for a fairy tale. As a figurine design, it's very original and well thought out. Good luck!

I can't get enough of your glowing tree. Very unusual and still fantastic.
Konako commented on 29th Jun 2010 (Report Spam)

I like all the pieces you used to design the heart, very creative.

Elfenn commented on 29th Jun 2010 (Report Spam)

Thank you very much Zilo, really ! It could be a good financial alternative to just paint the orbits with glow-in-the-dark paint, moreover in the story I wrote there is no glowing heart, the light is made by glowing worms and firefies inside the trunk. I liked the idea of a hollow toy in which we can put a lighting object, but I'm conscious it would be expensive :S And the most important for me in this design is the contrast day/night, so compromises are possible ^^

Zilo commented on 29th Jun 2010 (Report Spam)

Well thought-out, and I can tell you put a lot of thought and effort into the design. You were brave to take on something that wasn't cute and fuzzy, especially something generally inanimate like a tree - but you absolutely pulled it off! Very, very, cool design, and the extra panels you added show a lot of potential for the design. It might be hard to pull all that together - or rather expensive - but I still think you deserve props for thinking it all through. I like the night version best, I think it could make a very cool structure - perhaps to make it easier, they could just use glow-in-the-dark paint for the orbs, hehe.

I think your night version of this tree is lovely, and the strongest part of your piece. I know a lot of other submissions on this site are character based with fox tails, but this is a refreshing change of pace. If the actual version doesn't light up, I'd be willing to add a few lights myself.

I must say, I come on here quite a lot and look at many of the designs and yes, many of them are very creative, but I am usually not interesting in buying any of them for myself, they just don't appeal to me. However; This is different to me. This is so creative and the idea of the figure is so creative. This I will say is something I would definitely love to buy if it were to go on sale.

@CaptainE : I've also thought it would be better without its smile, that's why I've posted an new version... And indeed some parts glow in the dark, as indicated in my presentation =)

CaptainE commented on 20th Jun 2010 (Report Spam)
I think it should have a mean face instead of a happy one. Someone suggested glow in the dark, which would be AWESOME.

There have been very few flora submissions, and none have been as stunning as this! Love the glow in the dark elements!
Kalidril commented on 16th Jun 2010 (Report Spam)

You 've done a great work, it really seems to be alive and mischievous. The glow-in-the-dark heart is very gorgeous and a brilliant idea !
It must be quite pleasant to spend some time near this tree at night, maybe with some other friends of its, with a few fairies in its branches ;-)

Elfenn commented on 16th Jun 2010 (Report Spam)

Thanks again for your attention ! I've uploaded a new pic, I've made a little change on the day version : the tree is now more grimacing, but at night its smile is still the same.

In the forum I've posted a link to my tale about this tree, if you want to know its story :-)

Trippy.

Wow - I could also picture a big, solid version of this to be a decorative kitty playground. Say ~5-6ft tall. I would definitely use it as such along with the lights.
DisgruntledGirl commented on 13th Jun 2010 (Report Spam)
This is a wonderful concept.
Elfenn commented on 12th Jun 2010 (Report Spam)

Thank you for your comments and votes ! I'm writing the story I've imagined about this tree, if it's not too long I'll post it in the forum =)

Very charming, creative concept.  5 stars from moi!

Polysoup commented on 9th Jun 2010 (Report Spam)

I can hang earrings and small jewelry off him. Now that's a design that can multitask!

Elfenn commented on 9th Jun 2010 (Report Spam)

@pikachu6123 : I think indeed 7inches tall would be a good size =) Not too big but not too small, in order to see all the details.

@ShadowMaskPrime : if the figure is made, I would like to send to each buyer, on their demand and for free, the text I will write. But more simply perhaps could it be written on the packaging ? To tell the truth, I don't know how long will be the text, I'll try to make it rather short. In any case I'll need proofreaders, as my english is not perfect :s

pikachu6123 commented on 9th Jun 2010 (Report Spam)
i realy like this :) but how tall would it be? 6 to 8 inches tall = definate buy from me :D
Shottsy commented on 9th Jun 2010 (Report Spam)

This is very well constructed, and thought out! Very interesting idea and design.

ShadowMaskPrime commented on 9th Jun 2010 (Report Spam)
Very Nice. It's Kooky. Spooky. Cute. Got Plenty of Character. And nice idea with the story, though it might be nice to have a more complete version of the story, a couple paragraphs, to read it more, maybe have the story written on the model somewhere? I do wonder if the Tree, while a lovely spooky design, is very similar to other spooky trees many of us have grown up with in cartoons and picture books aplenty from our childhood, though that is probably partly the point. However any points lost and immediately restored and more points awarded still for the idea of being glow in the dark. I love Glow in the Dark stuff...

I really like this. It reminds me of a spooky tree we had in our neighborhood as a kid.
Riala commented on 9th Jun 2010 (Report Spam)
That is really adorable, and I like how you have the idea of glow and the dark paint for the tree for it to glow. I think this story character would be a great figure.
THE CAS commented on 9th Jun 2010 (Report Spam)
Poor tree man!, he looks like a tree from hell and he dont know why he scares off children, im givin it some love because i really like this, at night it will look diferent so its like having two figures at once.
